Ayesha Kamal is a Lahore-based modern Islamic calligrapher recognized for intricate detail, precise brushwork and a vivid command of color and texture. Her paintings unite the discipline of historic scripts with an intuitive contemporary composition shaped by emotion, memory and devotion.
Her practice draws upon Thuluth, Moalla, Shikasta and Kufic forms. Miniature-influenced surface preparation holds extraordinary detail across intimate and monumental canvases, while oils, acrylics, ink and pure silver leaf give the written form depth and physical light.

“I try to emphasize the message of the Quran through my art.”
A verse begins with what she is feeling and thinking. Painting then becomes an extended act of concentration—building the surface, repeating forms and allowing color, geometry and light to carry the viewer beyond literal reading.

A three-story public museum and sculpture garden presenting regional, national and international contemporary art within American University’s multidisciplinary Katzen Arts Center.

Building the bridge between studio and museum.
Curator and presenting producer Umar John developed the museum exhibition through Hummingbird Film Studios Inc., connecting Kamal’s studio practice with an American museum audience and long-term collection stewardship. Hummingbird Art and Culture Foundation Ltd. separately presents free public and community programming connected with the exhibition.
