Hummingbird Film Studios is a creative studio built across cities, cultures and disciplines. We develop and produce work that brings cinematic craft together with cultural understanding—from original films and documentaries to music, television, branded stories and public cultural experiences.
Our Story

Founded in 2008 and now based in the United States, Hummingbird Film Studios has evolved through filmmaking, television, journalism, music and cultural production. That journey gives the studio an international point of view without losing the intimacy of independent work.
We bring together creative development, production knowledge and cultural understanding. Each project begins with the same question: what is the most honest and compelling way to carry this story to its audience?
Hummingbird Film Studios Inc. is a for-profit creative company. Hummingbird Art and Culture Foundation Ltd. is a legally separate nonprofit organization. Both organizations share founder Umar John but maintain separate governance, finances, contracts and institutional responsibilities.
How We Work

We build the right creative team around the needs of each production. Our role may begin with development, continue through production and post, or focus on a defined part of the process. The structure changes; the attention to story does not.

Umar John is President and CEO of Hummingbird Film Studios Inc. and a multidisciplinary creative whose work spans filmmaking, production, music, poetry, journalism and cultural enterprise.
Alongside his work as President and CEO of Hummingbird Film Studios Inc., Umar John serves separately as Founder and President of Hummingbird Art and Culture Foundation Ltd., a legally independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
His professional journey has crossed countries and creative industries before continuing in the United States. Through Hummingbird, he has developed a connected body of work that includes independent cinema, television and digital media, original music, international film initiatives and cultural productions.
At the center of his practice is a commitment to stories that carry emotional truth and cultural memory. He sees creative work not only as entertainment, but as a way to connect people across language, geography and lived experience.
